This creek offers much in the way of solitude and beauty. This is the closest trout creek to St. Louis. The creek is very narrow and there is virtually no backcasting room. Expect to loose a few flys in the trees and brush. Most fish are small and legal length limit is 18" . To get there go west on 44 and take the bourbon exit. Go 5 miles south on route N. It is state-owned for its entire length downstream of the Salvation Army Camp to its junction with the Meramec River. You can park to the right of the first small bridge you pass. Upstream of the bridge seems to hold more trout. Down by the campground is another small bridge. Upstream of this a few miles holds some small mouths and bluegill.
My last visit was around May 2001. I caught 4-5 rainbows about 6" long. Several bluegill and small mouth bass. I have never seen so many skuds along the rocks near the shore. Insects were flying everywhere so bring some bug dope.
