Lyme Disease Prevention
Lyme disese definition:
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is caused by tick bites. Fortunately, not all ticks have the bacteria. If you get infected usually a rash forms near the bite within a few days to weeks. This may accompany flu-like feelings of headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle aches and fatigue.
Prevention:
When out fishing you can't always avoid walking through tall grass or wooded areas where ticks are present. Proper dress is very important. You can't see a tick if you have a black shirt on. Light colored clothing, jeans, boots and hat are a must. You can even purchase tick repellents.
When stepping out of the woods or grassy areas check your clothing and exposed skin for ticks. If you find any brush them off. You don't want to take them with you in the car.
If you get bitten:
Your first thought might be to try and burn the tick out. That just don't work well. The best way is to get fine pointed tweezers and pull it out from as close to the skin as possible. It the head remains in the skin don't worry. The body of the tick is where the bacteria is contained that causes lyme disease. Do your best to remove the head with tweezers. Apply antiseptic to the bitten area. If you get any of the above symptoms contact your doctor.
