Silver Lake, Highland, Illinois

This is a fairly good size lake. It even has decent boat access. Maximum horsepower is 25. Also, there is plenty of access for bank fishing. Wading is not allowed.

There are two main area's to fish. There is the main lake and a small reservoir area. If they are not biting on the main lake you can always try the reservoir area. The reservoir is directly adjacent to the main lake.

Plenty of good size catfish, crappie, bluegill, rockbass, walleye(very few), striped bass and largemouth. There is a 15"min. length limit for bass, qty. 3 max. Also, they stock trout during the winter season.

For further regulations take note of the signs posted in and around the area.

To get there access 143 south from highway 70. Travel South on 143 for about 3 miles.

I have only bank fished here. It is either extremly outstanding or below average. When it's good you catch a fish on about 90% of your casts. I prefer to use grubs, crawfish crankbait, rapala minnows and chicken liver for catfish.

Fishing Report: 2/25/00 Fished with my father from 8:30-11:30. I caught and released 3 bass of average size. Caught them all on 3/8 oz. chartreuse grub 3" long. Most of the fish have not yet moved in to shallow water for the spawn.
